a novel concept for the synthesis of methanol from synthesis gas (a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen). The approach employs a nickel(II) carboxylate with C8F17 ponytails, a cyclic triaza ligand with C8F17 ponytails attached to each of the three nitrogen atoms, a methoxide ion, and perfluorodecalin as the fluorous solvent. The methanol forms a separate phase above the fluorous layer.
