Continuous process for polymn of alpha olefin in gas phase in fluidized bed reactor having means for manipulating cooling of cycle gas, in presence of polymn catalyst under polymn conditions including target reaction T, pressure, recycle flow rate, cooling water flow rate for desired resin properties - Establishing limits for cycle gas flow to provide desired fluidization - Establishing desired reactor bed T - Determining actual bed T as polymn reaction progresses - Determining water flow valve position required to (a) Bring the actual bed T into line with desired T & (b) Bringing cycle gas flow valve position to the target cycle gas valve posi tion - Determining cycle gas flow valve position required to bring the actual bed T in line with desired T - Manipulating water valve & cycle gas flow valve by amounts necessary to satisfy the preceeding steps - Adjusting the target cycle gas valve position to effect reactor bed fluidization |
