Method of producing paper web having a visible transparent or translucent region comprising providing a paper stock consisting of opaque fibers & special stock consisting of transparent or translucent fibers produced from one or more of regenerated cellulose, PVA or acrylic fibers delivering the paper stock & the special stock on one or more surfaces of a wire in a forming unit of a paper machine together with one or more of a selected filler or binder, said paper stock & special stock being deposited onto different portions of the wire such that the special stock defines at least one region having a predetermined shape which forms a uniform predetermined pattern in the paper web, & simultaneously dewatering said paper stock & special stock deposited on the wire to form a paper web with constant thickness, the paper stock forming an opaque paper web portion & special stock forming the defined region as a transparent or translucent web portion extending generally uniformly through thickness of paper web wherebu duplication of paper web is rendered more difficult
