DESCRIPTION XFine® color innovation

XFine® is one of the very latest color innovations – designed by Co.

XFine® stands for intense metallic effects that effectively highlight the contours of the car body. Thanks to an innovative formula, very fine aluminum particles are arranged flat next to the other and thus have a kind of mirror effect on the body. This effect creates powerful contrasts. The color appears particularly bright on the edges of the car body, while it has a very dark effect when viewed from the side. This transition back and forth from bright to dark depending in the viewer s perspective uniquely highlights the contours of the car body. Another remarkable aspect of XFine® is that it combines state-of-the-art design and the highest level of application reliability in OEM application by automotive customers.

How is the effect created?

With XFine®, the challenge and the innovative solution, involve the arrangement of aluminum flakes in the surface of the finish. The particles, which are not aligned at all in the liquid coating, must be perfectly positioned after the coating has been applied. Co. has succeeded in inserting physical and chemical structures that support the alignment of the aluminum flakes during drying. This promotes the even distribution of the aluminum flakes, bringing about the mirror effect of the coating. The selection of suitable aluminum flakes is also critical to the process. XFine® could only be created by combining a special formulation and innovative components. With XFine®, for the first time a substantially stronger metallic effect has been achieved for waterborne OEM basecoats without posing specialized requirements for the coating process.
