Method of cleaning water mains for distributing water to users through water flow measuring meters, method comprising - Notifying all users of the upcoming cleaning - Isolating a section of main to be cleaned from water input & output between an entry point & exit point - Closing off all branches of isolated section of mains to be cleaned upstream from water flow measuring meters - Connecting a flow of pressurized air to entry point of isolated section of mains to be cleaned - Injecting atomized chlorine into flow of pressurized air to disinfect mains - Injecting a polyphosphate inhibitor into flow of pressurized air to soften the deposits in main, said atomized chlorine & polyphosphate inhibitor being present simultaneously in flow of pressurized air - Using pressurized air to blow out all water in isolated sec tion of water main through exit point - Inserting slugs of water into isolated section at entry point - Allowing pressurized air in said slug to exit said isolated section at exit point - Removing flow of pressurized air from isolated section - Opening up all branches of isolated section - Restoring flow of water to isolated section of water main |
