Sigma-Aldrich upgrades API production CELL-TIC Sigma-Aldrich's expanded cell culture plant in Irvine, Scotland, is animal-free. SIGMA-ALDRICH PHOTO Sigma-Aldrich is spending $550,000 in Buchs, Switzerland, to upgrade pilot-scale pharmaceutical chemical manufacturing and install a Knaur simulated moving-bed chromatography system for chiral separations. The firm announced the investment at the CPhI conference in Frankfurt, Germany, last month, where it also discussed a $12 million investment in liquid-fill cell culture media in Irvine, Scotland. The facility is dedicated to media free from animal components. This year, Sigma-Aldrich introduced an animal-component-free trypsin that uses a recombinant bovine trypsin expressed in corn produced by the transgenic plant firm ProdiGene. |
