n-Butene dimerization catalyzed by Ziegler-Natta Ni catalyst. Continuous two-phase HETEROGENEOUS operation, wherein catalyst is dissolved in chloroaluminate ROOM T IONIC LIQUID. n-Butene is introduced continuously into reactor & products which are poorly miscible with ionic liquid are separated in settler.
The new process over previously HOMOGENEOUS process, has the advantage in that it makes better use of vatalyst; conversion & selectivities are higher & isolation & purification are easier.
