In a well formation comprising crude oil, CH4 & mineral formation, a downhole hydroconversion process for improving crude oil visc - Analyzing a well to determine (1) conc of crude oil rel. to mineral formation & (2) amount of CH4 - Comparing amount of CH4 in well with crudeoil conc in order to determine sufficiency of CH4 for carrying out hydro conversion process - Feeding down hole to well mixt of steam, H donor & if necessary CH4 so as to obtain down hole in well H (> 0.15 moles/kg of crude oil); CH4 (> 0.06 moles/kg of crude oil) & steam to raise T to > 250C, such that crude oil is subjec ted to hydroconversion - Recovering upgraded oil from well wherein visc of oil is decreased & API* is increased |
