Product DE. C

PROPERTIES A comparison of the unspecific binding capacities of streptavidin coated M-PVA SAV2 particles with different sizes and three commercially available polystyrene based magnetic beads is shown in the second figure. The M-PVA particles as well as the ones of product D could be separated with a standard magnet in a few seconds (the measure was the complete separation of product D). Products B and C could not be separated completely. This was proved by the fact that UV spectra of the solutions from B and C, obtained after the separation, show significantly enhanced background scattering, produced by the nano particles, which still were contained in the solutions.

The same products and our streptavidin coated M-PVA particles were then compared with regard to their unspecific binding properties (third figure). The M-PVA particles are by far the beads that exhibit the least unspecific binding. Such low unspecific binding capacities are very important for diagnostic purposes. Using the hydrophilic PVA matrix enables us to further reduce the unspecific binding by lowering the magnetite content to 30 %.
