RESEARCH | The Song group uses new materials based on zeolites, mixed-metal oxides, and supported metal compounds to selectively adsorb sulfur compounds from fuels by direct sulfur-metal bonding. The process works at room temperature, without the need for added hydrogen. Once the adsorbent is used up, it can be regenerated by washing with a polar solvent. The adsorbed thiophenes can undergo desulfurization separate from the main fuel stream, saving by-product contamination of the entire stream |
