In response to regulations governing the properties of diesel fuels, COMPANY has developed and commercialized proprietary processes for several different hydroprocessing applications. Hydroprocessing catalysts have been important in meeting transportation fuel quality standards for many years. These catalysts, which allow compliance with currently mandated standards for diesel quality, are critical to the successful and profitable operation of today s refineries. Beyond direct treating of feedstocks for final product blending, hydroprocessing catalysts will play an important role in squeezing additional profit generation opportunities from existing hydrocracking operations. The history of catalyst development in this field has been evolutionary in nature. However, in the last several years, dramatic improvements in hydrotreating catalyst activity have been achieved. The stellar improvements in hydroprocessing catalyst activity demonstrated by proprietary technologies are providing many new opportunities for refiners to increase profitability. This technology is based on a new class of petroleum refining catalyst that are being used to improve the quality and the cleanliness of hydrocarbon fuels. In contrast to historical improvements of 10 to 20% in volumetric catalyst hydrotreating activity, RTM. a unique catalyst formulation, has as much as three times the relative volume activity of any previous commercial catalyst for removing sulfur or nitrogen. This allows refiners to use existing reactors to produce fuels with lower concentrations of sulfur and nitrogen and to produce diesel and heaver fuels with higher hydrogen contents (i.e. lower aromatic content).
