Propylene glycol planned in Japan Nihon Oxirane, a propylene oxide joint venture between Sumitomo Chemical and Lyondell Chemical, will build a 100,000-metric-ton-per-year propylene glycol plant in Chiba, Japan. The facility, making use of Lyondell technology, is scheduled to go on-line at the end of next year. The plant was first revealed when Sumitomo and Lyondell announced the restructuring of Nihon Oxirane earlier this year (C&EN, March 24, page 11). It will use propylene oxide supplied by a new Sumitomo plant that employs a novel cumene peroxidation process |
