Dow to idle polyethylene Dow Chemical is idling 885 million lb per year of polyethylene capacity in North America because of weak demand and high feedstock prices. The company says that it anticipates another volatile period in the coming months for natural gas prices, which are already about double historical norms. The cutback is in addition to the 600 million lb that Dow idled in Texas in 2001. The company operates almost 16 billion lb of polyethylene capacity worldwide. |
