LEGAL DISPUTES Praxair's Uptime System Does Not Infringe Patents

Danbury, CT, July 15, 2003 -- Praxair Inc., (NYSE:PX) announced today that it is confident that its new UpTime™ gas storage and delivery system, designed to reduce costs and increase productivity for semiconductor producers, does not infringe any patents belonging to any other companies.

In responding to a patent lawsuit filed last week by Advanced Technology Materials, Inc., Mark Gruninger, vice president of Praxair Electronics, said, "We believe this lawsuit is without merit and Praxair will continue to confidently market the UpTime system to our semiconductor customers."

"The uniqueness of Praxair's UpTime gas-delivery technology is confirmed by the issuance by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office of multiple patents as well as comparable patents issued by other countries," Gruninger added.

The UpTime product family encompasses the three primary gases for ion implantation: arsine, phosphine and boron triflouride. It is designed as a "drop in" replacement for an implanters adsorbent-based gas delivery system. It reduces overall costs by lowering the cost of ownership and increasing the productivity of ion implanters
