COOPERATION |
To illustrate the possibilities, P&G, for example, has several collaborations with the University of Cincinnati (UC). They include the following: * "Lab-on-a-chip"--targeted to create higher throughput HPLC analyses * Genome research--P&G's collaboration with UC's Genome Research Institute (GRI) is cited by UC President Joseph Steger as a "cornerstone to expanding biotechnology business development in Cincinnati and Ohio." This synergistic GRI partnership consists of two state-supported academic institutions (UC and Wright State University), P&G Pharmaceuticals, a private pediatric hospital (Children's Hospital), a software development company (Acero), and a government research laboratory (Air Force Research Laboratory). GRI is a true collaborative effort between public and private sectors. GRI is set to create $100 million of new activity over the next 10 years; become a major economic driver attracting federal and private industry funding, fueling growth of a biotechnology center in the region; and create a biotechnology presence that means new high-paying jobs and expanded economic development for the region |
