Capacity is shuttered in fertilizers Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan and Mississippi Chemical are idling fertilizer capacity due in part to high natural gas costs. Potash will close nitrogen fertilizer plants in Memphis, Tenn., and Geismar, La., indefinitely, affecting about 190 employees. MissChem will curtail production at its Yazoo City, Miss., nitrogen facility, furloughing 132 employees. The firm will also idle two potash mines in Carlsbad, N.M., affecting 378 employees |
