STUDY Her research interest at the center is to find ways to incorporate resins into calcium phosphate such that it might be used to cap and protect the pulp of a tooth. Pulp-capping cements, author says, would avoid the need for some root canals or tooth extractions. She points out that root canals--some 25 million of which are performed in the U.S. each year--are among the most expensive dental procedures.
