In a latex paint compn comprising water, pigment, latex comprising emulsion polymer, the IMPROVEMENT comprising conducting polymn in presence of 0.1-2 pphm of hydrophobically modified starch having structure (Starch base material)-O-CO-CH2-CHEt-COOH; wherein said starch deriv is prepd by - Mixing starch base material with water to form a slurry & adjusting pH < 7; wherein slurry contains 5-45% starch base material - Adding succinic anhydride - Agitating to form a dispersion - Adding an alkali material to adjust pH > 7 in order to initiate reaction between starch & anhydride |
