Kemira buys Vulcan business Kemira will boost its presence in North America with the acquisition of Vulcan Materials' pulp and paper chemicals unit for $44 million. The 200-employee unit has annual sales of about $80 million in emulsion polymers, defoamers, and wet- and dry-strength resins. The acquisition includes an R&D center in Columbus, Ga., and plants in Columbus; Shreveport, La.; and Vancouver. Vulcan says the business being sold represents the majority of its performance chemicals business; it intends to sell the rest of the business over the next several months |
