Coating method - Contacting substrate with aq soln of Fe(II) salt & Al salt at pH > 2.5, wherein aq soln contains a buffering & pH control sys tem & dispersant agent - Heat. soln to 50-100C - Hydrolyzing & oxidizing Fe(II) ion, to form Fe(III) oxide hydro xide & hydrolyzing the Al ion to form Al oxide hydroxide, nu cleating the Fe(III) oxide hydroxide & Al oxide hydroxide in situ at substrate surface, wherein the oxide hydroxides are present as particles which are subcolloidal in size, thereby forming a amorphous coherent Fe(III) oxide hydroxide/Al oxide hydroxide coating on substrate surface; wherein the resultant rates of adsorption onto substrate surface of oxi de hydroxides are greater than the resultant rates of forma tion of said same oxide hydroxides |
