Single liquid alpha-amylase (I) reagent compn comprising an aq soln free of (I) prodg microorganisms comprising - At least one substrate which is hydrolyzed when mixed with sample of body fluid contg (I) to yield directly by reaction involving (I) to form a detectable label released to reaction mixt, the rate of formation of said label being proportional to amount of (I) present in sample & at least one exo-enzyme to cooperate with (I) in the formation of label - Compd selected from diols & polyols present in amount sufficient to stabilize the exo-enzyme, said substrate being present in concn sufficient to prevent substrate from limiting the rate of hydrolysis thereof; said reagent compn being stable against substrate & enzyme degradation for > 6 months at 2-8C |
