Maxygen alleges trade secrets violation Maxygen , Redwood City, Calif., has initiated an arbitration proceeding against Energy BioSystems Corp. , the Woodlands, Texas, in connection with Energy BioSystems' claim that it has developed a new technology that it calls Random Chimeragenesis on Transient Templates (Rachitt). Rachitt is used to create variant genes that code for enzymes that may be used as biocatalysts. Maxygen alleges that Energy BioSystems, in developing and promoting the technology, violated a confidentiality agreement it signed with Maxygen in December 1997, pursuant to which Maxygen disclosed confidential information regarding its MolecularBreeding technology to Energy Biosystems. The MolecularBreeding technology is used to evolve new properties into single genes, multigene pathways, vectors, and genomes. Energy BioSystems disputes those allegations, saying it will vigorously defend itself. Neither side would disclose further details of the arbitration |
