Method wherein fiber material is continuously cooked to produce pulp of low kappa number, good pulp strength & suitable for bleaching without Cl agents; comprising - Providing a vertical digester having a top, bottom, at least one digester screen arrangement located between top & bo ttom, a digester screen arrangement located nearest bo ttom & at least 2 cooking zones, one located directly above the lowest digester screen arrangement - Feeding fiber material & cooking liquid into top of digester - Maintaining elevated T & pressure within digester - Maintaining isothermal conditions within & between 2 coo king zones - Withdrawing used cooking liquor from at least one digester screen arrangement located between top & bottom - Discharging pulp directly from bottom of digester through first conduit & into a pressurized washing apparatus while maintaining the same pressure within conduit as is present in bottom of digester - Bleaching pulp |
