Codexis and Eli Lilly have formed a multiyear collaboration in which Codexis' gene-shuffling technology will be used to develop improved fermentations for several of Lilly's natural-product-based drugs. Lilly will provide up-front technology access and research funding, as well as research and commercialization milestone payments. Codexis' whole-genome-shuffling technology was developed under a National Institute for Standards & Technology Advanced Technology Program grant sponsored in part by Lilly.
