Method for mfg soft hydrogel contact lens having dye dispersed throughout lens - Reacting (i) water soluble mono- or dihalotriazine dye with (ii) a hydroxyalkyl ester of (meth)acrylic acid in presence of a base to form (i)/(ii) reaction prodt which is a reactive dye wherein > 50 % of dye contains only one (meth)acrylic group - Removing reactive dye from unreacted (i) & (ii) - Polymn mixt comprising soln of hydrophilic monomer & coloringly effective amount of reactive dye of step in inert diluent to form lens-shaped polymer swollen with diluent - Hydrating above to replace diluent with water; without bonding dye to lens-shaped polymer after the lens-shaped polymer is formed |
