Process for mfg shaped hydrogel articles comprising molding a polymn mixt comprising monomer mixt comprising hydrophilic monomer (major proportion) & crosslinking monomer & inert, displaceable non-aq diluent comprising - HO-(CH2-CH2O)nH; wherein n is such that MW 300 - 10,000 - Ethoxylated bisphenol A: H(OR)mO-C6H4-C(Me)2-C6H4-O (RO)nH; R = -CH2-CH2- & m+n = 2 - 100 Thereafter replacing diluent with water; provided that diluent is selected such that when polymn mixt is polymerized in a photo-differential scanning calorimeter wherein polymn is induced by UV irradiation at light intensity 2.5 - 3 mW/aquare cm, the time to max. exotherm is 0.2 - 3.5 min & % conversion to polymer of monomer mixt at max exotherm is > 40 % |
