Can Radical Polymerization Process Nomenclature Find The Perfect Solution? Considerable confusion reigns in the terminology used for controlled or living radical polymerization, according to Craig J. Hawker, research staff member at IBM Almaden Research Center, San Jose, Calif. "Living polymers are distinguished from dead polymers by being able to grow whenever additional monomer is supplied. "From this perspective, polymer chains prepared under living free-radical methods are far from being dead. They can be isolated, characterized, stored, and so forth, and then simply reactivated by the addition of monomer under the appropriate conditions." |
