Solvent-free process for making a solvent-free, fine powders of high MW alternating terpolymers of maleic anh., Me vinyl ether & isobutene having molecular structure (A-B)n, where A is maleic anh. & B is Me vinyl ether or isobutene & contg 5-25 % of isobutene, which have av. MW (GPC, water, pH 9) > 1,500,000 & specific viscosity > 6 (1% in DMF), which comprises - Charging the Me vinyl ether & isobutene into reactor, the mole ratio of isobutene to Me vinyl ether > than that desired in terpolymer - Adding radical initiator - Heat. mixt to 50 - 100C - Feeding molten maleic anh. into reactor over time, the mole ratio of maleic anh. fed therein to total charge of Me vinyl ether & isobutene < 1:3 |
