They recently isolated glycosylated proteins from the tiny vomeronasal organ of rodents, which senses pheromones. They washed the proteins, separated them on gels, isolated the spots, removed the O- and N-linked oligosaccharides, separated them by capillary electrochromatography, and then analyzed them by MS/MS. "We found major differences between male and female mice in expression levels and glycosylation patterns of vomeronasal proteins. "These distinctions can potentially be related to differences in male and female responses to pheromones."
