INFORMATION More than 80 animal rights protesters were arrested following a day of synchronized attacks and protests against the facilities of pharmaceutical and consumer goods companies in southeast England. The companies had been pinpointed, the protesters say, as customers of Co., the focus of protests because of its animal testing program. The targeted facilities belong to known drug firms, played down the protests, saying they were overblown by the press. "There were a couple of broken windows, that's all," one staffer says. "The protesters did not tip over filing cabinets and ransack offices, as newspapers have suggested." Meanwhile, activists organized by the group, Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty, are planning to carry their protest to the Arkansas headquarters of Stephens Inc., an investment banking firm that is Huntingdon's principal lender and stockholder.
