BUSINESS INFORMATION |
Co.`s $600 million-a-year fluorine products business has a new plant about to go on-line to supply the polyurethane foam blowing agent, hydrofluorocarbon (HFC)-245fa (C3H3F5), to appliance manufacturers. It replaces the hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC)-141b (CH3CFCl2), which may no longer be used. CONTACT told a January investors' conference that the newer blowing agent provides Co. with a 20% profit margin compared with 10% for the product it replaces. "HFCs tend to be proprietary," he told the investors, and so "they have better margins" than the HCFCs.
