CORP. ACTIVITY |
Co will spend $50 million to build a new plant in Geismar, La., to make hydrochlorocarbon-240fa, also known as pentachloropropane. Co will supply the product as feedstock for a new facility that CUSTOMER Co. is also building in Geismar to make hydrofluorocarbon (HFC)-245fa. Both plants are scheduled to be in operation by mid-2002. HFC-245fa is a replacement for the polyurethane-foam-blowing agent hydrochlorofluorocarbon-141b, an ozone depleter that will be phased out in the U.S. and Europe on Jan. 1, 2003. Co. notes that this is the second such deal for the company. It is already making a feedstock for another major fluorocarbon producer under a long-term supply agreement
