Researchers reported extending worm's life span 50% by using combination of drugs that eliminate O free radicals, the harmful byprodts of eneregy-production processes in cells. The drugs are synthetic forms of natural enzymes, SOD & catalase. More powerful than simple antioxidants such as vitamin E, which quickly gets used up, the synthetic compds reconstitute themselves & keep on destroying more O free radicals until eventually being eliminated from the body The findings support author's long-held hypothesis that O free radicals generated in the powerhouses of cells, mitochondria, are a major contributor to degenerative diseases & aging. "If you have a power plant that burns coal, you will get energy but also toxic smoke" "You can decrease the toxicity of the smoke by putting a scrubber into the smokestack.
