MECHANISM OF ACTION |
ink consists of water-based fluid contg high concn of clear plastic microcap sules typically 50-100 micro.m in diam. Each microcapsule contains charged particles of white TiO2 suspended in hydrocarbon oil that is dyed black. When a electric field is applied to a surface that has been coated with the ink, the white particles migrate to one side of the microcapsule – the side closest to the viewer – where they become visible. This makes the surface appear white at that spot. If the electric field is reversed, the white particles move to the opposite end of the microcapsule & are hidden by the black fluid. The surface thus appears dark at that spot |
