Question: Our Co. has successfully prepd deriv from your liquid NAO fractions. However attempts to extend these chemistries to your NAO 24-28 & 30+ NAO wax fractions showed reduced conversions & prodt selectivities. Can you suggest methods to improve wax conversions & increase prodt selectivity? Answer: Co.’s traditional NAO 24-28 & 30+ prodts contain significant quantities 30-45% of vinylidenes (2-alkyl-1-alkenes) & internal olefins. In some practiced chemistries, the vinylidene & internal olefins are either unreactive or reduce the prodt selectivity To support these chemistries, we have introduced 2 new prodts.: NAO 26-28 & NAO 30+ HA (for NAO 30+ High Alpha). These prodts have alpha olefin contents > 80% & will provide increased reactivity & improved prodt selectivity in some chemistries practiced on the NAO 24-28 & 30+ fractions Four chemistries that should benefit from the increased alpha content of the new NAO 26-28 & NAO 30+ HA prodts include 1. Hydrosilylation: R-CH=CH2+R’3SiH=R-CH2CH2-SiR’3 2. Epoxidation: R-CH=CH2+H2O2=R-(Epoxide) 3. Aromatic Alkylation: R-CH=CH2+C6H6=Ph-CH(CH2R’)(CH2R’’) 4. Koch reaction |
