The research team showed that solid UO2 dissolves in supercritical CO2, contg TBP & NO3H. The resulting uranyl nitrate-TBP complex is recovered by reducing fluid pressure to atm pressure & then allowing gas to expand into collection vial The extractant oxidizes uranium(IV) to uranium (VI) to form complex that is very soluble in CO2. This process does not require aq soln or organic solvent to dissolve UO2 |
