Product DE. B

TECHNOLOGY Co. has developed series of METALLOCENE CATALYSTS with DONOR & ACCEPTOR atoms in the ligands. As a result, the ligands can switch from being BRIDGED to UNBRIDGED, depending on the T.
Normally, the ligands on a metallocene catalyst are either SANDWICH STRU
CTURES, with NO COVALENT bonding chain between the 2 ligands. The BRIDGED structures are usually used to control the stereochemistry of the polymn to make prodts like SYNDIOTACTIC polypropylene. The UNBRI
DGED structures are normally used for SEMICRYSTALLINE prodts like HDPE & LLDPEAdvantage of DONOR-ACCEPTOR technology is FLEXIBILITY. “When you look at the literature on metallocenes, you will find hundreds of deriv that belong to either of 2 classes, but nothing in between”. “These catalysts are in between in that you can control the state of the system”.

The Co.’s system offers plastics makers a new variable they can control in polymn. The switching property makes the catalysts suited for making copolymers & block copolymers. In fact, author says the catalysts can be used to synthesize styrene-ethylene copolymers as well as ethylene-norbornene copolymers

Co. is developing the catalysts to support its own synthetic rubber business & not to enter a new market. Co. plans to LICENSE most of the technology for other applications
