1. It acts as a SCAVENGER for oxygen, moisture & other impurities in the reactor 2. A METALLOCENE CATALYST consists of complex of 2 Cp anion based ligands with metal cation. On its own, this metallocene is no good for polymn. MAO places METHYL groups on the METAL, giving the olefin raw materials a place to bond in polymn process 3. Because the METHYLATED METALLOCENE is not electrophilic enough to attract olefins, MAO takes away another chlorine or Me group bonded to the metal to give it a positive charge 4. Lies in its large, 3-dimensional structure, which diffuses the anionic charge that previously was held tightly by chlorine |
