PATENT CLAIMS (1) Flocculating cellulosic suspension with a water soluble cationic first polymer retention aid to form cellulosic flocs
(2) Mechanically degrading the flocs
(3) Reflocculating the suspension by adding a soln of a water soluble anionic second polymeric retention aid made by polymn water soluble anionic ethylenically unsaturated monomer charge under polymn conditions
(4) Forming a sheet by draining the reflocculated suspension
(5) Drying the sheet
characterised in that the water soluble anionic polymeric retention aid
(a) Is a branched water soluble polymer made by including branching agent in the monomer charge
(b) Has intrinsic visc. > 3 dl/g
(c) Has a tan delta rheological oscillation value on a 1.5% soln at 0.005 Hz of > 0.5, or has a deionised SLV visc. number > 3 times the salted SLV visc. number of the polymer made under the same polymn conditions from the same monomer charge in the absence of branching agent
