PATENT CLAIMS Continuous process in presence of heterogeneous catalyst
(a) Mixt of hydroxy compd (I) with phosgene (II) passed into reactor filled with said catalyst & reacted in such a way that heat of reaction is dissipated by evaporation of prodts & thus the reaction T rises to < 50C > inlet T of mixt
(b) The prodt leaving reactor is degassed, the waste gas together with molten stream of (I) is passed into an additional waste gas reactor filled with catalyst & reacted so that (II) are removed from stream of waste gas
(c) Reaction prodt removed from reactor & degassed is either led away directly for working up
(d) Prodt leaving second reactor is again degassed & this waste gas is passed into the waste gas reactor referred to in (b) with (I)
(e) The degassed prodt from second reactor is fed into a distn. column, (I) distilled off at top & are reintroduced into waste gas reactor
(f) The bottoms of this column are passed into second distn. column, traces of low boiling comp. possibly still present are removed from di-aryl carbonate at top & are reintroduced into upper part of first column
(g) Di-aryl carbonate, possibly contg traces of high boiling comp is removed from gas space of second column
(h) This prodt is passed into third column &, by sepg. the residual quantities of high-boiling comp. as bottoms, pure di-Ph carbonate is obtained as overhead prodt
(i) The combined bottoms of second & third columns are passed into fourth distn. column unit, di-aryl carbonate is distilled off at top, is returned to second column & the high-boiling comp. are removed from bottoms of fourth distn. column unit
