A multivesicular liposome having multiple non-concentric chambers with internal membranes distributed as a network throughout, produced by method (a) Forming a water-in-oil emulsion from 2 immiscible comp. being 1) Lipid comp comprising at least one organic solvent, at least one amphi pathic lipid & at least one neutral lipid lacking hydrophilic head group & 2) first aq. comp.; said water-in-oil emulsion further comprising 3) non- hydrohalic acid in concn range 0.1 mM - 0.5 M, wherein the concn is selected to provide controlled release of drug in 4) from the liposome & 4) at least one drug; said non-hydro halic acid & said drug being independently incor porated into lipid comp., the first aq comp, or both (b) Mixing the water-in-oil emulsion contg non- hydrohalic acid with secobd aq comp to form solvent spherules & (c) Removing the organic solvent from solvent spherules to form MVL |
