Process for prepg a polyester from hydroxyalkyl dicarboxy lic acid monomers &/or oligomers comprising - (a) Introducing reaction material having a degree of poly mn of 1-40 of hydroxyalkyl dicarboxylic acid ester monomer &/or oligomer into a pipe or tubular reactor, wherein said reaction material has a mole glycol equiv./acid equiv. = 1.0:1 to 1.2:1 considering all points of reactant additions to the process - (b) Introducing a dense gaseous medium into reactor - (c) Operating said reactor at super-atm pressure & at suffi cient T to: 1) Achieve a turbannular flow regime comprising said reaction material & said gaseous medium before lea ving the reactor 2) Cause polyesterification to occur whereby the reaction material polymerizes to produce polyester, with the de gree of polymn increasing from the gebinning of reactor to the end 3) Produce water with little or no other reaction by-prodts or little or no unreacted monomers or oligomers, which are separated from the polymer prodt through gaseous medium |
