A ceiling board having a durable peripheral portion, the said board comprising a front face, & a plurality of side faces, the peripheral portion comprising the side faces & a portion of the front face adjacent the side faces, the peripheral portion having a latex compn applied thereto, a portion of the said board surface other than the peripheral portion being free of the latex compn, the latex compn comprising - Filler particles of 2 particle size ranges, the first filler particle having median diam. of 0.5-5 microns, the second filler par ticles having median diam. 20-300 microns, ratio first/se cond = 2:1 - 1:8 by wt - The binder being selected from group: epoxy, urethane polyester, melamine, vinyl polymers & acrylics Ratio filler/binder solids = 1:1 to 12:1 & Wherein the side faces have a surface which is perpendicu lar to the front face, the latex compn being applied to the perpendicular surface such that after drying the perpendicular surface has 2-10 grams/linear foot of latex compn solids applied to it |
