Method of stimulating the immune system comprising adm an immuno-stimulatory amount of an Ab raised against an antigen selected from: LAG-3; soluble protein fractions consisting of at least one of the 4 immunoglobulin type extracellular domains of the LAG-3 protein (AA 1-149; 150-239, 240-330 & 331-412 of SEQ ID NO:1), a substituted LAG-3 or substituted immunoglobulin type extracellular domain of LAG-3 consisting of AA residues 1-149, where one or more arginine residues at positions 73, 75 & 76 of SEQ ID NO:1 are substituted with glutamic acid residues
