A group of american scientists discovered the trick the tuberculosis bacteria uses to stay hidden in human body during years before "attacking". The discovery will open a new front in the research of disease cure, that kills more than 2 million people/year in the whole world. The tuberculosis bacteria is able to install itself in the lungs & prevent of being attacked by the host's immunological sys tem. The study revealed that when the bacteria hides, occurs a change of its metabolism, feeding itself with fatty acids instead of carbohydrates. Without this change the infection wouldn't progride. The detailed observation of this metabolism conducted to the discovery of an enzyme called "ICL", which could be the key for the cure of the disease. The scientists developed a tuberculosis bacteria mutant that did "not have the gene that produced ICL".
