PATENT CLAIMS An alkylation process
- (A) Contacting in a reactor comp comprising (I) an alkene
of > 2C, (II) an alkylbenzene having at least one H atom on
the alpha-C atom of alkyl group, (III) Na & K alkylation cata
lyst compn comprising: (a) fresh Na & K alkylation catalyst
compn either preformed or formed in situ, by a process
which comprises heating a mixt formed from comp compri
sing (i) an alkylbenzene having at least one H atom on the
alpha C atom of the alkyl group & (ii) a mixt of (1) Na metal
&/or organo-Na compd & (2) K metal &/or organo-K compd
in Na/K = 0.1-10.0 as well as K/alkylbenzene = 0.01-0.3, at
one or more T at which a fresh Na & K alkylation catalyst
compn is formed & (IV) water, in amounts such that reaction
mixt is formed in which: Water/K < 0.1
- (B) Maintaining the reaction mixt of (A) at one or more T in
the range of 100-180C at which alkylation occurs & a reac
tion mass comprising (i) a longer chain alkylbenzene prodt
& (ii) residual Na & K catalyst is produced, & removing at
least a portion of the longer chain alkylbenzene prodt from
said reaction mass
