Halogen exchange process which comprises heating a mixt formed from (i) finely-divided anhydrous alkali metal fluoride (ii) Haloaromatic compd having at least one halogen atom of atomic number > 9 on aromatic ring & (iii) an aminophospho nium catalyst, at one or more reaction T at which at least one said X atom is replaced by F, wherein said catalyst ingredie nt is tetra(dihydrocarbylamino)phosphonium halide which has been subjected to pre-treat process which comprises - Contacting an impure said ingredient with liquid cyclic ether under conditions effective to dissolve the said ingredient & leave at least portion of said impurities in solid state - Sepn solids & liquid phase from each other - Mixing an anhydrous non-solvent for the catalyst ingredient with the liquid phase to precipitate the said ingredient - Separating the precipitated catalyst ingredient solids & liquid phase of (c) from each other |
