PATENT CLAIMS Method for recovering densified plastic from mixed waste contg plastic & < 15% paper, said waste having d. 2-3 pounds/cubic foot
- Shredding the mixed waste at ambient conditions
- Charging a batch of shredded waste weighing 250-650 lbs
to a densifier
- Further shredding the mixed waste inside the densifier with
a motor-driven rotating blade while motoring surface T of
the plastic inside the densifier, amperage drawn by the
motor-driver & vibration level within the densifier
- Continuously shredding waste inside the densifier for 5-20
min, until the surface T of the plastic reaches > 220F, until
the amperage drawn by the motor increases, & until the
vibration level inside the densifier increases
- Thereafter injecting a cooling fluid into the densifier to lo
wer the surface T of plastic to 120-165F & agglomerate the
plastic into particles ranging in size 1/16-1/2 inch & having
a paper content < 3%
- Recovering densified plastic having d. = 16-25 pounds/
cubic foot
