Process for prepg polyhydroxycarboxylic acids by the selective oxidation of di-, tri-, oligo- & polysaccharides in an alkaline medium using oxygen in presence of - Pd (> 40 mg/l) on carrier as catalyst & - Bismuth as promoter characterized in that molar Bi/Pd = 1:5-1:40 in which process towards the end of the reaction, as soon as a strong increase is observed in the O concn in the liquid phase, the O supply is reduced until its concn in liquid phase is < 20 ppm |
