Method for making lithographic printing plates - Prepg a heat mode imaging element consisting of a litho graphic base with hydrophilic surface & top layer which top layer is sensitive to IR radiation, comprises a polymer, solu ble in an aq alkaline soln., an IR-dye selected from group: indoaniline dyes, cyanine dyes, merocyanine dyes, oxonol dyes, porphine deriv., anthraquinone dyes, merostyryl dyes pyrylium compds., diphenyl & triphenyl azo compds., & squarylium deriv., & is unpenetrable for an alkaline develo per contg SiO2 & alkali metal hydroxides represented by MOH or oxides thereof (M2O) in molar ratio 0.5-1.5 & concn of SiO2 0.5-5% - Exposing imagewise said heat mode imaging element to IR radiation - Developing said imagewise exposed mode imaging ele ment with said alkaline developer so that the exposed areas of the top layer are dissolved & the unexposed areas of top layer remain undissolved characterized in that said IR-sensitive layer is a visible light- & UV light-desensitized layer |
